Trombone Shorty's Voodoo Threauxdown featuring Galactic, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, New Breed Brass Band, Cyril Neville, Walter Wolfman Washington, and Kermit Ruffins
On the heels of his newest release, #imsoneworleans, trumpeter Kermit Ruffins of HBO’s "Tremé" fame is set to pay homage to his idol and fellow Big Easy legend Louis Armstrong with a string of tribute performances scheduled for October 8th - 10th at New York City’s newest music venue, The Hall at MP Taverna in Brooklyn, owned by celebrity chef Michael Psilakis.
Kermit Ruffins and an all-star band to be announced will perform four shows over three nights at The Hall. Chef Michael Psilakis has created a very special New Orleans menu to commemorate these shows, complete with classic New Orleans dishes like Crab & Shrimp Etouffee, Chicken & Andouille Sausage Gumbo, and Fried Oyster Po’ Boys; drinks such as an Absinthe Frappe, Sazerac, and Hurricanes, plus Abita Beer; and Bananas Foster for 2 for dessert. The full menu is available here.
Jon Pareles of The New York Times wrote, "Mr. Ruffins is an unabashed entertainer who plays trumpet with a bright, silvery tone, sings with off-the-cuff charm and never gets too abstruse in his material."
Influenced by Satchmo's inventive trumpeting from a young age, Ruffins cut his teeth on the streets of the renowned French Quarter as well as in Clark High School's marching band. It was there he found a musical kinship in Phil and Keith Frazier - one that would grow into a Grammy-winning brotherhood known as the Rebirth Brass Band.
Now, an accomplished solo artist with over ten releases under his belt, Kermit Ruffins will bring his knowledge and love of Louis Armstrong's catalog to the forefront with these can't-miss performances.
